Social Value

At the heart of local communities

At Believ we ensure that Social Value delivery isn’t just seen as a tick-box exercise, it is embedded at the heart of how we deliver our contracts. We believe that our chargepoint infrastructure projects should do more than provide services; they should generate meaningful social, economic, and environmental benefits for the communities they serve.

Our approach aligns with the principles of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 and the Procurement Act 2023, recognising that public sector procurement should achieve more than value for money alone. It should also contribute positively to local priorities, helping communities address their unique social, economic, and environmental challenges.

To ensure our commitments are both meaningful and transparent, we embed social value directly into our commercial modelling. A defined percentage of total contract revenue is allocated to social value delivery, ensuring that the initiatives we propose are proportionate to the scale of the contract and capable of delivering measurable, lasting impact. Equally, we have a dedicated ESG and Social Value Team, that work to oversee initiatives from initial design through to localised delivery within the communities in which our network serves.

EVEX Suffolk

In July 2025, Believ sponsored and attended the EV Driver’s Electric Vehicle Experience Day (EVEX) event in Ipswich, organised by Ground Transport Group in collaboration with Suffolk County Council. The event was designed as an immersive introduction to the electric vehicle world, addressing common questions and concerns, hearing from business exhibitors and experts, while providing consumers with the ability to test-drive EVs.

Consumer-Focused Expert Panel Session

Believ, having recently secured the first signed LEVI contract with Suffolk County Council, was placed at the heart of EVEX. With Believ’s expertise central to the exhibition, attendees were guided through common questions and concerns, offering a space to discuss all things EV charging.

Charlie Allen, Head of Public Sector Partnerships at Believ, delivered a compelling presentation during the consumer-focused expert panel offering expert insights into Suffolk’s EV infrastructure, charging capabilities, and accessibility. These were complemented by contributions from industry leaders including Linda Grave (EV Driver), Lash Saranna (EZOO), and Suffolk Council representatives. The panel effectively demystified EV terminology, addressed prevalent misconceptions, and highlighted the critical role of CPOs in advancing the UK’s Net Zero ambitions. Additional panels explored business applications and electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs).

Further amplifying Believ’s outreach, Partnerships Director, Steve Beer, participated in a Gen X Radio interview, offering expert commentary on charging speeds, cost considerations, and consumer myths. These engagements empowered attendees with the knowledge necessary to make confident decisions regarding EV adoption.

The Believ Tent

Case Study: Creating Social Value Through ESOL Employability Support in Newham

As part of Believ’s social value commitments under its contract with the London Borough of Newham and Redbridge, delivered in partnership with Uber, the Believ team delivered an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) employability workshop at Newham College. This initiative directly supports the borough’s inclusive growth ambitions by investing in local people, strengthening employability skills, and addressing barriers to work within the regional economic landscape.

Address Local Need

Newham is one of London’s most diverse boroughs, with a high proportion of residents who speak English as an additional language. While this diversity is a strength, language barriers can present challenges to accessing employment, career progression, and wider economic equity.By delivering a targeted ESOL workshop focused on workplace communication and confidence-building, Believ contributed to reducing inequalities in access to opportunity and supporting residents into sustainable employment pathways.

Workshop Structure and Delivery

The session combined professional insight, lived experience, and interactive learning:

I1. Introducing Green Industry Career Pathways

The Believ team delivered a presentation outlining how the company is delivering EVI across the UK to support the transition to sustainable transport.

This provided learners with:

  • Exposure to the growing green economy
  • Awareness of emerging career pathways within the EV and infrastructure sectors
  • Insight into how climate action translates into real-world jobs and opportunities

By linking environmental sustainability with local employment opportunity, the session helped contextualise the net zero transition in a way that felt tangible and accessible.

2. Sharing Lived Experience to Build Confidence

Members of Believ’s ESOL panel led an open discussion about their own experiences of emigrating to the UK, including “culture shock” moments and how they overcame professional and personal barriers. For example, Team Administrator, Iris Ma, shared how language barriers and differing cultural norms initially felt daunting but has since developed strong professional relationships and shared her route into her career.

3. Practical Workplace Skills Development

The session then moved into interactive breakout groups focused on essential workplace communication skills, including:

  • Introducing yourself to a colleague for the first time
  • How to ask for help or clarification
  • Making professional small talk
  • Participating in workplace discussions

Learners worked together to role-play real-life scenarios before presenting back to the class. This experiential format encouraged active participation and allowed learners to practice language skills in a supportive environment.

The session concluded with an open Q&A, enabling learners to ask candid questions about career journeys, industry expectations, and professional growth.
